The 8th TIAMSA Annual Conference (Poznań, Poland) once again highlighted how diverse and vibrant the expanding field of art market studies has become. Over a day and a half, academics and professionals—including advisers, art lawyers, and auctioneers—took part in lively discussions about the key geopolitical, legal, and technological challenges facing the art market and its players as we move toward 2030.
This year, in particular, the spotlight was on the vital role played by TIAMSA groups—most notably TIAMSA Legal, which has conducted impressive work on key issues such as illicit trafficking and the protection of cultural property, in collaboration with European and supranational institutions. A significant part of the network was present and actively engaged, generously sharing their latest insights into the legal landscape of global art markets.
What also made the event a success was the variety of session formats: from regular scholarly sessions—where both senior and junior researchers presented recent advances on topics such as the history of art markets, local and global art scenes, and technological transformations—to panel discussions and presentations of ongoing funded research projects, which showcased the capacity of art market research to attract substantial funding. Dedicated sessions for young scholars further enriched the program, and their scientific quality deserves special mention. These two parallel sessions gave the floor to PhD candidates conducting research on a wide range of innovative topics—from fine and applied arts appraisal and mechanisms of value creation to the future of regional auction houses and the platform economy (NFTs, metaverses, etc.). These sessions fostered rich peer exchange, reflecting TIAMSA’s ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers—an endeavor the association has championed since its inception. The scholarly energy that emerged from these discussions left no doubt about the strong and growing presence of the new generation of researchers who will shape the field of art market studies beyond 2030.
In short, the TIAMSA 2025 conference added another meaningful chapter to the association’s ongoing journey. We are deeply thankful to the local organizing team and grateful for the opportunity to have learned from this wealth of fresh ideas in beautiful Poznań and at the dynamic Adam Mickiewicz University. We now look ahead to continuing TIAMSA’s knowledge-sharing mission at the 2026 conference, which will celebrate the association’s 10th anniversary—a milestone not to be missed!
*For young scholars interested in joining this supportive and collegial environment, applications to the Young Scholars Program are still open until July 14, 2025
