The newly accessible Boehler database includes information on works of art, transactions and people mentioned in the archive of the Julius Böhler art gallery. Founded in 1880, this internationally active Munich-based company was one of the largest art galleries in the German-speaking area.
In 2015 the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte acquired the object files, the photo folders and the customer files of the firm with support of the German Research Foundation (DFG). From 2017 onwards, this material has been researched with the help of the Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation. With additional funds from the German Lost Art Foundation (2019) it has now been indexed in a database.
