The baron Melchior-Roger Portalis (born January 22, 1841, Paris, France—died December 27, 1912, Thielle-Wavre [Switzerland]) was a French writer, art historian, bibliophile, engraver, and collector. From 1880–1902, Portalis was a frequent contributor to the Gazette des Beaux-Arts. The Baron Roger Portalis Correspondence (1871–1910, undated) feature letters written to Portalis by bibliophiles, artists, and historians, including Ernest Quentin-Bauchart, Eugène Paillet, Henry Houssaye and others.
