The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project (JDCRP) invites you to the second presentation of The JDCRP Reading Room, our online conversation series featuring authors whose books have enriched our understanding of looted art and Jewish culture.
As we mark the end of the 80th year since the liberation of Auschwitz, Dr. Kerry Wallach will join us to discuss her 2024 biography “Traces of a Jewish Artist.” Wallach’s book recovers the story and artistic legacy of Rahel Szalit, a Jewish graphic artist, illustrator, painter, and cartoonist whose work was beloved in Weimar Berlin but largely forgotten after she was murdered in Auschwitz in 1942.
During the session, Wallach will introduce Szalit’s life and surviving works, and offer reflections on her research process.
No prior reading is required, but the book’s short introduction is available for free online: www.psupress.org/books/titles/978-0-271-09559-2.html
