Richard Aronowitz, European Head of Restitution at Sothebyʼs, restitution
specialist Shauna Isaac, art dealer René Gimpel and Abby Brindley,
Associate in Art Law at Mishcon de Reya will discuss the challenges
involved in recovering looted artworks.
Richard Aronowitz will illustrate the lengthy process of provenance
research at Sothebyʼs, Shauna Isaac will discuss her familyʼs landmark
restitution victory – United States vs Portrait of Wally, Ren. Gimpel will
shed light on a current case involving his family, and Abby Brindley will
offer a legal view.
This panel forms part of the Brave New Visions events programme. Brave
New Visions tells the stories of the pioneering .migr. dealers and
publishers who helped turn London into a global centre for contemporary
art in the 1940s-1960s. It highlights their impact by showing the art they
championed. This major exhibition, hosted by Sothebyʼs, is part of
Insiders/Outsiders, a year-long nationwide arts festival celebrating
refugees from Nazi Europe and their indelible contribution to British
culture.
