TIAMSA Conference Poznań 2025
The theme for the 2024 TIAMSA annual conference is ‘Art Market – beyond 2030’
Friday 4 July– Saturday 5 July
Deadline: 20 February 2025
The conference is organised in cooperation with the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
The 2025 conference has two main themes:
1.Geopolitical relations and how these affect the art market, for example in the flow of
objects, investment trends, etc. There will be a special focus on emergency situations
and how this has impacted the art market and artists, including lessons learned from
the coronavirus pandemic and situations of political unrest.
2. Technological development, particularly AI and its use in art creation as well as art
market analysis and authentication, and the creation of new art platforms and ways of
interacting with artwork (e.g. Metaverse). Technological development brings a
plethora of new options for the art markets. It influences artist workshops, art market
analysis, and the art offered on the market. The Pact for the Future foresees the
importance of AI and new technologies in global development beyond 2030, which is
why this important issue has been chosen for inclusion in the 2025 annual debate.
While most sessions will be fully dedicated to this year’s themes, we will also accept
submissions regarding the art market that are not connected with these topics, but show recent
research on issues that relate to the art market and artists more broadly. Therefore, the
program committee invites the submission of proposals on all art market-related topics.
We further invite contributions on cultural policies. In 2025, the Mondiacult conference will
be organized in Barcelona as a follow-up to the World Conference on Cultural Policies and
Sustainable Development MONDIACULT 2022. Next year, we expect the first global report
on cultural policies to be published. It will be based on the rich data obtained from Member
States’ surveys and consultations with civil society organizations, artists, and cultural
professionals.
The report aims to cover art market issues such as the flow of cultural property, the fight
against the illicit trafficking of cultural property, and cooperation with art market actors; it
will also include discussion regarding the creative industries, freedom of artistic expression,
and how new technologies and emergencies affect the cultural sector. The art market is vital to
understand the latter, as it reflects trends and geopolitics in real time. On the other side, artists
can also show how they perceive the world without a political filter. The role of art market
actors in fighting illicit traffic, setting standards in transactions, and creating a safe transaction ecosystem is essential and must continue to be explored. Military conflicts in different regions
of the world cause shifts in investment trends and artist relationships. The issue of culture in
emergencies caused by human or natural threats is now at the top of the agenda for the
international community to address. These emergencies affect artists, collectors, and other art
market actors. It is worth considering how current and future emergency situations can be
handled using art market knowledge.
We plan to have a young scholars panel for emerging scholars (within 5 years of obtaining
their PhD), PhD candidates, MA graduates, and current students. The panel will be chaired by
experienced scholars who will support and give feedback regarding the participants’
performance.
