Call for Panels for the Fourth Swiss Congress of Art History
For the first time, the Swiss Congress of Art History will be held in Italian-speaking Switzerland from 6 to 8 June 2019, following previous meetings in Berne, Lausanne and Basel. The conference is organized by the Swiss Association of Art Historians SAAH and the Istituto di Storia e Teoria dell’Arte e dell’Architettura ISA (Accademia di architettura, Università della Svizzera italiana, Mendrisio). In the tradition of its predecessors, this meeting aims to reflect current art-historical research in Switzerland in its full breadth: Which topics, questions, theoretical approaches and methods prevail in the debates of the various disciplines and institutions, in national and international discussions? Where do interdisciplinary perspectives emerge? What current challenges is the discipline as a whole facing, and what are the problems arising in individual areas?
As a first step, art historians from all fields and institutions in Switzerland are invited to submit a suggested topic (1 page, max. 2000 characters) for a panel that you would like to organise and lead. Suggestions for panels chaired by two or more persons, possibly from different institutions, are welcome. Each of the panels will provide scope for five 20-minute presentations. The directors of the panels will present example insights into each thematic area in an additional plenary talk.
The conference languages are Italian, German, French and English. The SAAH will contribute to accommodation costs. All speakers and panel directors are exempt from the conference registration fee.
The academic advisory board, along with the conference organisers, will decide on the choice of panels by 20 April 2018. The public announcement of the Call for Papers by the individual panel directors will thereafter be organised by the SAAH office. Speakers for a maximum of two of the five presentations may be personally invited from Switzerland or abroad. Support for younger academics is particularly desired. The choice of speakers must be communicated to the conference organisers by 15 July 2018 at the latest.
Please send your suggested panel along with a short curriculum vitae to the Congress Secretariat, email@example.com, by 31 March.
