The Role

As the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture enters an exciting period of growth, investment and innovation, an exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced lecturer, with industry experience to join the Department of Critical and Historical Studies as Course Leader for its MA in Art Market Appraisal (Professional Practice).

In this role you will work within the Department of Critical and Historical Studies, alongside a team of talented colleagues of international standing, to lead the MA Art Market Appraisal (Professional Practice). The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and prepares students for careers in the global art market.

As Course Leader, you will lead the course, overseeing its admissions, teaching and learning and academic administration processes. You will take responsibility for ensuring that this unique course continues to provide its students with an inspirational, high quality, and industry facing curriculum. You will work collaboratively alongside other Course Directors to develop and ensure the quality of the postgraduate offer across the school. You will also play a central role in wider enterprise, scholarship and research developments and will be expected to promote the course to national and international markets.

The Person

You will have experience of teaching in higher education, preferably to postgraduate level, and will have a track record of research and scholarly activity within an appropriate discipline. The successful candidate will also have excellent interpersonal skills, and be both student-focused and adept at working with diverse groups of colleagues. Applicants will require knowledge of the historical and contemporary global art market, alongside a sound understanding of industry techniques of art appraisal and valuation. Professional experience of the art trade, of auction business, contemporary art fairs and new technologies of art commerce would be a highly desirable as would broad industry contacts and membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
