The MA in Art Business is a distinctive and internationally known postgraduate programme of study which combines art and business studies in an academic and vocational composite. The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Art Business is a key member of the full-time team which leads the teaching and development of the MA in Art Business.
This exciting opportunity will suit someone with working experience and specialism within an Economic/Finance background. He/she will facilitate the future development of the Art Business Finance unit through a wide range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary practices, research and pedagogy in the field.
The appointee will be:
- Unit Leader of the Art Business Finance unit: developing and updating the unit on an annual basis; recruiting suitable professionals from the art business world to assist in its delivery and academic assessment
- Unit Leader of at least one elective
- Tutor on the Navigating the Art World unit
- Accompanying study trips at home and abroad
- Assisting the MA Art Business Programme Director in the smooth day-to-day running of the programme, and of the academic quality and pastoral welfare of the students
- Advising the MA Art Business programme team and Institute colleagues on a regular basis concerning developments in the national and international economic aspects of the world of art business
- Incorporating new and relevant information and ideas into the MA programme as and when required.
Candidates must have:
- a PhD in the economic aspects of art business or a related area
- a specialist knowledge of economics, statistics and general mathematics, in order to teach students, at beginners and more advanced levels, theoretical and applied statistics, using computer spreadsheet programmes such as Excel
- experience of postgraduate teaching, ideally to an international student group
- experience of creating and directing programme units (modules)
- excellent communications skills, flexibility and interpersonal skills
- a student-centred approach
- the ability to work within a small committed academic team, to be collegial, a team player, and to liaise closely with programme coordinators
- a good general knowledge of art history, ideally with a contextual and object-based understanding of the fine and decorative arts; experience of Art Business and/or experience of working in the art world would be an advantage
