Dr. Julia Drost, Paris, From Miró and Max Ernst to Salvador Dalí – Surrealism and the Paris art market of the 1920s and 30s

How did the first sales of works by Max Ernst, Joan Miró or Salvador Dalí come about and how did the works arrive from their workshops on private walls? Which art dealers and galleries represented these artists, which prices were first achieved for the paintings and through which other channels did these art works find buyers? Unlike other avant-garde artists such as Expressionism or Cubism, the first years of Surrealist movement lack one great name amongst dealers. Julia Drost will examine the reasons behind this fact.
