One of the Stiftung Arp e.V.’s core activities is to keep the scholarly discourse on the work of Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Hans Arp alive. For this reason, the Stiftung Arp e.V. grants several research fellowships each year.

With the Sophie Taeuber-Arp Research Project (STARP), the Stiftung Arp e.V. Berlin/Rolandswerth and the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen have launched a joint research project on the life and work of Sophie Taeuber-Arp, which provides scholarly documentation on Taeuber-Arp’s oeuvre and makes it available for further research in the online catalogue.
Additionally, with the publication of Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s correspondence (Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Briefe 1905–1942, ed. Medea Hoch, Walburga Krupp, Sigrid Schade, 2021 and Briefe von Sophie Taeuber-Arp an Annie und Oskar Müller-Widmann, Fondazione Marguerite Arp, Locarno, 2021) with her sister, friends, collectors, and husband Hans Arp, source material that provides new insight into her life and further interpretations of her work is now easily accessible.
Thus, for the 2023 call for fellowship proposals, we would especially welcome applications from researchers who have engaged with these materials. At the same time, we would still welcome applications that address other aspects of both artists’ oeuvres as well as the larger artistic and cultural contexts surrounding them.
The fellowships are awarded to junior scholars as well as established researchers and curators, with the aim of supporting research or exhibition projects by scholars who would like to consult the Stiftung Arp e.V.’s archive or library. Depending on the scope of the research project, fellowships will be awarded for a duration of one to three months, with a monthly stipend of 1,200 Euros.
