TIAMSA Member News: A new report on the Spanish Art Market will be co-authored by Clare McAndrew and TIAMSA member Marta Pérez Ibáñez

Dr. Marta Pérez Ibáñez, PhD art historian, researcher specialized in art market studies and TIAMSA member, will work together with Dr. Clare McAndrew from Arts Economic in the new issue of the report on the Spanish art market, to be published in the spring of 2020.

The previous reports, funded and published by Fundación La Caixa in 2012, 2014 and 2017 and authored by Dr. McAndrew, will take a new dimension this year, since it will incorporate the vision and expertise of Dr. Pérez Ibáñez, who is specialized in the evolution of the Spanish art market after the beginning of the 2008 economic crisis. Her studies on the economic activity of artists in Spain and their relationship with the Spanish art system, published in 2017, contributed significantly to the writing of the new Statute of the Artist by the Spanish Congress of Deputies, and provided numerous data to McAndrew’s 2017 report. The new issue will be funded, together with Fundación La Caixa, by Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo IAC, the institutional association of contemporary art professionals, of which Dr. Pérez Ibáñez is also a member, and by IFEMA, national organizer of ARCOmadrid art fair.

Dr. Marta Pérez Ibáñez is a member of the editorial team of the Art Market Dictionary by Walter De Gruyter Publishing, as section editor for the Spanish and Portuguese art markets. The research she has developed during the last years include an in-depth analysis of new paradigms and business models in Spain, and of new ways of relation between artists and other agents of the art system. The segmentation on the professional and economic working conditions of women artists has recently been published by different research journals, such as Arte, Individuo y Sociedad and Clepsydra.
