TIAMSA Member News: Database Now Online – Artworks sold by Julius Boehler in Munich, Lucerne, Berlin and New York, 1903-1994

On 1 June 2021 the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich (TIAMSA Institutional Member) opened its database (in progress) that provides access to the Julius Boehler Archive. Founded in 1880, Julius Boehler’s firm was one of the most important art galleries of the first half of the 20th century in the German speaking area. In 2015 the Zentralinstitut acquired essential parts of its archive with support from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Its digitization and initial research has now been made possible with funds from the Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung and a database has now been set up with support from the Deutsches Zentrum Kulturgutverluste. This database, now live (in progress), provides important information on thousands of artworks and those who were involved in their acquisition or sale.
