This online seminar will provide a sequel to TIAMSA’s academic session at this year’s CAA conference (4 March 2021, 12:00 PM EST) that pertains to “WADDA | Women Art Dealers Digital Archive“ (wadda.info), a new project that examines and elevates women art dealers’ contributions to today’s art world and the larger art-history canon. (WADDA is the subject of an article in the Art Newspaper of 1 March 2022: https://www.theartnewspaper.com/2022/03/01/women-art-dealers-digital-archives-modern-art)
The papers of this seminar, chaired by WADDA co-founders Caterina Toschi (University of Foreigners, Siena) and Véronique Chagnon-Burke (Independent, New York), focus on photographic material. By analyzing women gallerists’ portraits, reproductions in art catalogues and the photographs of exhibitions – images which support the art dealers’ experimental editorial choices – the session seeks to provide a better understanding of how these women have created new selling strategies and transnational networks.
